Checkmage! weekly devlog 24
hi, its austin.
i haven't made a devlog in a while. i'm working on a bunch of cool stuff that happens at the end of the game. it involves a lot of scripting and fun sprites to draw, so i've kept busy.
in the meantime, here are some additions im adding to the overworld.

a lot of the stages in checkmage feel closed off from the world, so i've been trying to give some of them more space. i'm doing this by embedding them in a larger surrounding area or by giving them a bit of a view at the far edges, instead of surrounding everything with darkness.

both of these areas have work-in-progress visuals, but its already making these stages feel larger and more complete.
this is the area of the haunted steeple that leads up to (or down from) the top of the belfry.

i gradually shift the scope of the light radius around the player dynamically as they enter darker or lighter areas.

a lot of progress has been made for certain cutscenes at the end of the game. i cant wait for people to see it...
